Baccarat Side Bets and How Pair, Tie and Bonus Wagers Work
Baccarat side bets are optional wagers placed alongside, or independently from, the main Banker and Player choices. Instead of predicting which hand will finish closer to nine, they can pay for specific events such as a Player Pair, Banker Pair, Tie, particular winning margins, or other table-specific outcomes. Their larger advertised payouts can look attractive, but they usually cover less frequent results than the main baccarat bets.

What are baccarat side bets?
Baccarat side bets are additional markets that settle on events other than simply whether Player or Banker wins the hand. Common examples include Player Pair, Banker Pair and Tie. Some live and electronic tables add Perfect Pair, Either Pair, Dragon-style bonuses, Super Six or other proprietary wagers.

Player Pair looks only at the first two Player cards

Pair bets are separate from who wins the hand
A Player Pair can win even when Banker eventually wins the main baccarat hand. Player could begin with two Fours, satisfying the Player Pair wager, but finish with a lower baccarat total than Banker. The pair market wins while a separate Player main wager loses.
This independence is one of the most important points to understand before stacking several bets onto one round.
How does the Tie wager work?
The Tie market pays when the final Player and Banker totals are equal after the drawing rules have been completed.
Player total = 7
Banker total = 7
The Tie wager wins. Main Player and Banker wagers are handled according to the table rules, while the separately funded Tie bet receives its own settlement.
A Tie is different from a pair
Baccarat side bets are easy to confuse when several labels appear together. A Tie compares the final point totals of the two hands. Pair wagers examine whether the first two cards of a specified hand match in rank.
Player can have a pair and the round can still end without a Tie. A Tie can also occur when neither opening hand contains a pair.
What is a Perfect Pair?
Where offered, a Perfect Pair normally requires the opening two cards to match more precisely than a standard pair, commonly by both rank and suit.

Exact terminology and payouts should be checked because Perfect Pair is a variant-specific market rather than a universal base-baccarat rule.
What does Either Pair mean?
Some baccarat side bets allow a wager on at least one of the opening hands forming a qualifying pair. This is often labelled Either Pair or similar wording.
If Player opens with 9♠ and 9♦ while Banker does not pair, the condition can still be satisfied. The same applies when only Banker forms the qualifying pair. Check how the table handles a round in which both hands pair.
Bonus bets can use winning margins
Some baccarat variants offer bonus markets based on how strongly Player or Banker wins rather than simply which side wins. They may classify outcomes by winning margin, card count, natural totals, or another specified rule.
These markets are sometimes branded with names such as Dragon Bonus, but exact conditions vary. Do not transfer one provider’s bonus paytable to another game just because the wager has a similar name.
Higher payouts usually cover narrower outcomes
Baccarat side bets can advertise larger payouts than the main Player or Banker wager because they usually require more specific events.
A hypothetical pair market paying 11:1 on S$10 would produce:
S$10 × 11 = S$110 profit
With the original S$10 stake returned, the total return is S$120. The larger headline payout does not mean the event occurs frequently.
Payout size is not the same as probability
A 25:1 payout looks larger than 11:1, but payout size alone does not tell you whether a wager offers better mathematical value. The probability of the event and the amount returned when it occurs both matter.
Read the paytable together with the wager definition rather than treating the biggest listed number as automatically preferable.
Side bets increase the real cost of the round
Suppose a player places:

- S$5 on Banker Pair
- S$5 on Tie
The complete amount committed is:
S$20 + S$5 + S$5 = S$30
Adding baccarat side bets changes the amount at risk even when the main Banker stake remains S$20.
Commission and no-commission tables can differ
Standard commission baccarat commonly applies commission to winning Banker wagers. No-commission variants can modify selected Banker settlements instead.
Optional markets can also vary between those table types. A Pair or Tie wager should be checked independently from the commission structure of the main Banker bet.
Do side bets change the third-card rules?
No. Baccarat side bets do not normally let the player choose whether Player or Banker draws another card. Baccarat uses predetermined drawing rules, and the dealer follows them after the initial deal.
Pair markets can effectively be determined from the first two cards, while Player, Banker and Tie outcomes require the hand to finish.
Card values still follow normal baccarat scoring
Aces count as one, Two through Nine use face value, and Tens, Jacks, Queens and Kings count as zero. Totals above nine use only the final digit.

This scoring determines Player, Banker and Tie settlement, while Pair wagers depend on card rank rather than point total.

Published Singapore casino rules recognise Player, Banker, Tie, Player Pair and Banker Pair wagers. That provides a useful reference for standard terminology, although online tables can add proprietary bonus markets.
